Pavlov’s Prayer
Ping! The call to prayer. Ding! The summon rings. Buzz! The ritual begins. Like Pavlov’s dog, we obey Captive to the modern deity— Slender, sleek, omnipotent. The holy glow in our palms That guides us, That binds us, That blinds us. We scroll, we swipe Pilgrims of an endless feed Seeking comfort in it’s cold light We wake with its summons, We sleep beneath its gaze, Our dreams shaped by its glow. And when the signal fades, When the battery wanes, We flounder, lost. Oh holy glow, why hast thou forsaken me? Without you, I am lost. With you, I am bound. Freedom? A myth, Our chains are wireless now.
